In the words of one-time Hostess Spokesperson, Ann Blyth, “Freshness Never Tasted So Good”. For those of you who enjoy arcane 1970’s TV references……you’ll remember Ann’s sultry if not sappy tones, singing the praises of Hostess Snack Cakes. If you don’t remember, or you’re trying to forget……look her up on youtube. (link)
In any case, that advertising slogan is really appropriate for describing what I find each week at the Farmer’s Market in Downtown Yakima. This year’s market started up in mid-May and is getting better with more variety each week. My wife and granddaughter and I have made it a Sunday tradition the past few years and there are some new features we’re enjoying including ‘espresso’. Groovin’ Grounds has a mobile truck parked within the market and they make a mean Americano!
This past Sunday, there were cherries of a couple of different varieties already available, strawberries which were picked earlier that morning, local asparagus, various greens, onions and a plethora of produce (much of which is pesticide free), locally produced jerky, honey, flowers, crafts and so much more. My wife and I enjoyed a plate of some delectable Filipino food while Anna devoured a snow-cone.
Something for everyone with more added each week. Here’s a link to their website for more information. http://yakimafarmersmarket.org/
